On waking
On waking, still in bed. Women say «Modah ani». Since the hands have not yet been washed, God’s Name is not said.
מוֹדֶה אֲנִי לְפָנֶיךָ מֶלֶךְ חַי וְקַיָּם שֶׁהֶחֱזַרְתָּ בִּי נִשְׁמָתִי בְּחֶמְלָה, רַבָּה אֱמוּנָתֶךָ:
Modeh ani lefanecha, Melech chai vekayam, shehechezarta bi nishmati bechemla, raba emunatecha.
I thank You, living and eternal King, for returning my soul to me with compassion; great is Your faithfulness.
