About this place
The oldest Jewish cemetery in England: consecrated in 1657, with Cromwell's leave, by the Spanish and Portuguese Sephardi community, and closed to burials in 1735. It holds some 1,700 graves and today belongs to Queen Mary University of London. It adjoins the Ashkenazi cemetery on Alderney Road.
