About this place
"Hands Begging for Mercy" memorial (Apua anovat kädet), unveiled in 2000 on Tähtitorninvuori observatory hill, overlooking the south harbour. It commemorates the eight Jewish refugees Finland handed over to the Gestapo in November 1942, of whom only one survived, and is the city's main Shoah remembrance site.
